Confidentiality of Data
An important design rule allows collaborating suppliers and retailers to process data residing in each other's respective systems without the need to extract data beyond the company boundary. This ensures that the integrity and confidentiality of data is maintained. For example a supplier can request sales report based on scan data residing in the retailer's POS system. The report will be produced in aggregate form without the source POS data being transmitted to the supplier.
